2 Associate Non-Executive Directors - Northern Care Alliance

Northern Care Alliance are seeking 2 Associate Non-executive Directors to supplement the existing Board to help support Board succession strategy and achieve a balance of Board level skills

Established in 2017, the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA) is one of the largest and most respected NHS providers in England, employing around 19,000 staff and serving a diverse population of around 1 million people across the North part of Greater Manchester. The NCA brings together the twice ‘outstanding’ rated Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, an organisation heralded as a beacon of best practice and innovation, with Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to form a progressive Alliance of Care Organisations under a group arrangement.

From 1 April 2020, the NCA has been responsible for running a range of hospital and community healthcare services provided through our Care Organisations across Salford, Oldham, Bury and Rochdale. The NCA is strongly placed to support the development of emerging Integrated Care Organisations across the wider conurbation, through a partnership model with other health and social care providers.

We have worked hard over recent years to develop outstanding standards of care for our local population with a strong focus on quality. Building on the strong foundation set by our Chair and leadership team, we are seeking to appoint two Associate Non-Executive Directors to join the Board.

The Opportunity

The Associate Non-Executive Director (Associate NED) roles are a way to supplement the existing Board to help support Board succession strategy and achieve a balance of Board level skills. It is also a great way for individuals to learn about being a Non-Executive Director in a supportive environment. Whilst not a voting role the individuals will still get to participate fully as a member of the Board, setting culture and strategic direction as well as ensuring capacity and capability to deliver the NCA plans and holding the Executive team to account. The post holders will be supported with appropriate development as well as mentoring by an experienced Non-Executive Director.

The roles are aimed at attracting potential future Non-Executive Director candidates who may not yet have Board level experience but have the ability and potential to succeed in a Board level role. We are particularly keen to use this opportunity to broaden the diverse perspectives on our Board and so are hoping to hear from candidates who may work in a different environment to traditional Non-Executive backgrounds and especially those individuals who have different lived experiences and from BAME backgrounds. We want to ensure we hear the voice of our communities in our Board and this represents a great opportunity for individuals to have an influence on what the NCA can do to support the health and wellbeing of our local populations.

You will be a natural leader and whilst we are not looking for specific skill sets for these roles, we are very interested in individuals who may bring related sector experience into our organisation, for example community or voluntary sector or specific skills around areas that the organisation is looking to grow, for example research and education. Other key skills such as Clinical experience, Finance, IT, Estates and commercial backgrounds are equally attractive so we really would encourage applications from a wide range of backgrounds. You will be comfortable challenging senior colleagues and able to bring fresh thinking to our ambitions. What you must have is a willingness and ability to work collaboratively as part of a unitary board living and promoting the values of the Northern Care Alliance.
