About Belfast City Centre Management Company Ltd.

BCCM is the organisation behind improving business life, public spaces and the safety of Belfast city centre. Established in 2000 as a partnership between the public and private sectors, it has historically been funded by Belfast City Council, the Department for Communities and the private sector.

The organisation has since changed and has recently undergone a strategic review of its operations resulting in a move towards a more commercial model and new governance structure.

This structural change will see BCCM change its Board structure from a representative Board to a refreshed Board structure to reflect a more commercial approach to its delivery. The new commercially focused Board will comprise of a group of independent strategic experts committed to taking the organisation forward by identifying new opportunities and projects.

The company will also convene a new City Strategic Forum, ensuring that the skills, insight and expertise of the outgoing Board members, alongside other strategic partners, will continue to influence and encourage strategic decisions for the benefit of the city.

Independent BCCM Board Members

Belfast City Centre Management (BCCM) is developing an ambitious new strategy and priorities culminating in a dynamic new brand. We are now seeking new Independent Members to join the talented team that makes up our Board to assist in pursuing a new strategic direction for the Company. Board Members will hold the post of Director of the BCCM Company, and will be elected annually at the Company AGM.

You will work alongside the Chairman, City Centre Manager and other members of the Board, bringing your own independent views and skills to the table, taking a strategic outlook throughout and helping BCCM to remain on target to achieve our ambition.

Time commitment:

It is anticipated that this role will require a time commitment of no more than 6 days per annum.

These positions are currently unremunerated but reasonable expenses are payable, however, the role is immensely rewarding in terms of impact on quality of life issues for all users of Belfast City Centre.

About you

You will be an effective communicator and team player who is not afraid to challenge and ask why. We are particularly looking for Board Members who have expertise in:

  • Demonstrating that they are strategic thinkers, capable of providing leadership and achieving successful organisational outcomes in a partnership context;
  • Developing and maintaining a strong network of key stakeholders and decision-makers across Belfast;
  • Fulfilling your responsibilities for company governance and strategic direction;
  • Developing an organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document and legal and regulatory guidelines; and
  • Exercising expert judgement and scrutiny for the organisation and contributing fully to Board.

Qualities Required

We welcome applications from candidates with the relevant skills and expertise to carry out this role effectively. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a background in one or more of the following:-

  • Finance / IT / Governance
  • Housing Policy
  • Community Planning / Public Order
  • Retail / Hospitality Sector
  • Business Development / Organisational Strategy
  • Marketing / Public Relations
