Chair - Camden Carers Center
Camden Carers Centre is recruiting for a Chair of the Board of Trustees
Camden Carers Centres wonderful Chair is stepping down after 5 years in the role and we are looking for a new Chair. You would be joining the organisation at an exciting time; we have just secured a three year contract from Camden to continue to deliver services to carers in the borough (with a probable extension to 7 years). We are in the process of applying for PQASSO level 2 (a quality mark). We have a dedicated and highly skilled staff team of 25 and over 60 enthusiastic and skilled volunteers.
Camden Carers Centre is a well-established and highly regarded local third Sector organisation that aims to improve the lives of carers and their families through the provision of a range of services and activities. These include information and advice, health checks, carers' assessments, training, counselling, advocacy and social activities. We actively promote and facilitate carer involvement to assist us in promoting and raising awareness of carers' rights, needs and issues within the voluntary and statutory sectors.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make a strategic contribution to developing health and social care services in Camden. Camden Carers Centre is a widely respected organisation both in Camden and across other Carers Trust organisation in England (we are network partners of Carers Trust). We have a good working relationship with our main funders and our commissioners are dedicated to working with us to provide a first rate service in the borough.
You will be someone looking to put their experience and understanding of Health Services and/or Adult Social Care to good effect. Ideally we are looking for someone who is or has been a carer themselves and understands the issues that carers often face. You may be a carer who wants to contribute to the planning and delivery of services in the Borough or be a member of the community looking to make a positive contribution to a valued local charity. We have had some success with obtaining outside funding but would welcome someone with the additional skills of fundraising/funding applications; we have just developed our 3 year funding plan.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for supporting the organisation in its endeavours and holding the CEO to account on behalf of its funders and commissioners. The Chair has two over lapping roles: to work with the CEO and to work with the Board and its subcommittees. You will need to commit approximately 6-10 hours/month.
The Chair meets regularly (usually fortnightly) with the CEO (at a time convenient to both), carries out the CEO's annual appraisal, and acts as a point of contact and sounding board for the CEO. The Chair supports the organisation by attending some external meetings (where appropriate and possible), sets the agenda for trustee Board meetings with the CEO, keeps fellow trustees up to date on important issues offering support/advice to fellow trustees and the Board sub committees. The Chair will be well supported by two committed and experienced deputy Chairs, the Chairs of sub- committees and the other board members.
The board are happy to consider first time Chairs or someone who is interested but does not have all the experience; it is a role that you will be able to grow in.
For Camden Carers Centre the most important attributes are that you understand the important role that carers play and are committed to achieving great things for our great organisation.
The current board consists of a 9 trustees with a wide range of skills and knowledge. The trustees work well together and are comfortable and confident to discuss and challenge each other on important issues in a constructive way; the Chair will support all trustees' voices to be heard.
If you are interested in the above position or would just like to find out more please contact us and we will put you in touch with Allegra Lynch Chief Executive Officer. A discussion with the current Chair to find out more about the role can also be arranged. Applicants will need to submit a CV and supporting statement by the end of July 2018. Appointments will be made following an informal interview process by members of the board and the current Chair.
