Founded in 1883, Cardiff University is one of the UK’s leading research universities. We are a global, outward looking institution with a growing international staff and student community. Our civic mission is to help improve the health, wealth and well-being of the people in Wales. Our world-leading research was ranked 5th amongst UK universities in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework for quality, and 2nd for impact. Our “The Way Forward 2018-2023” strategy will ensure that we continue to provide an outstanding study, life and work experience for students and staff, and build on the University’s ambitious Civic Mission programme, which is rooted in our history and sees us continue to demonstrate our relevance to the communities and people of Wales.

The Chair of the University’s Council is now seeking to appoint two new Lay Members to the Council. Prospective Lay Members of Council will bring to the role, significant, relevant experience and expertise to complement the existing strengths of the University Council members to support our vision and maintain our status as a world-leading university in Wales.

You will have proven ability to work effectively as a member of a board, provide constructive challenge and be an effective communicator, as well as having the ability to make a significant strategic contribution to Council and Committee discussions and building effective relationships. Whilst applications from all candidates with relevant expertise and experience are welcomed, we are particularly interested in candidates with experience and background in finance or investment management. An understanding of the Higher Education context and interest in the issues and opportunities in the sector would be helpful.

We are keen to achieve a balance on the University Council between those who live in Wales and those further afield, and welcome applications from all to support diversity in the composition of the University Council and our decision-making.

The positions present an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to the future direction of a leading University in a rapidly changing global environment.

Cardiff University is committed to supporting, developing and promoting equality diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, particularly underrepresented groups.
