Non-executive Director - Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

We’re looking for someone to join the Board of Directors - a person with real drive and enthusiasm, who will share their passion for creating a hospital that gives patients the best possible care and offers their staff a great place to work.

Non-Executive Directors at Chesterfield Royal Hospital have the chance to see things from a different perspective. It’s a unique opportunity to appreciate patient and staff experience first-hand, as well as the challenges and potentials within the organisation.

Rated ‘GOOD’ by the Care Quality Commission in 2017, you’d join an organisation that serves more than 400,000 people across North Derbyshire’s varied communities. They are the area’s largest employer - with 3,900 staff working at the hospital, in the community and in GP surgeries. With a £245 million budget they care for and treat around 360,000 patients every year – 80,000 of whom come through the doors of their 24 hour Emergency Department. Thanks to a history of sound financial management they have invested well-over £120 million in new developments and facilities over the last ten years, to create a modern and welcoming site with the very best facilities.

If being a non-executive director appeals to you, you’ll need to demonstrate top quality and extensive experience at Board level, both as an executive and non-executive, gained across a range of sectors. You will have a demonstrable level of maturity and discernment to be able to judge issues of materiality and significance and be approachable and visible at all levels. A desirable advantage would be if you have experience as; either a senior independent director or deputy chair; or with recent experience from within the IT and digital technology sectors including AI; predictive analysis; Blockchain - to have an understanding of these issues to bring to their Board.

If you have a strong focus on good corporate governance; can support and constructively challenge and think you share their values, they would welcome a conversation. They are also keen to increase the diversity of their Board. We welcome applications from people living with disabilities and from any race or religious background, as well as those from the LGBT communities.

  • Remuneration: £13,633 per annum
  • Commitment: 3 to 5 days a month
  • Close for applications: 11 January 2019 12.00pm
  • Interview date: 25 February 2019

We value and promote diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity for all and appointments made on merit. We believe that the best boards are those that reflect the communities they serve.

We particularly welcome applications from women, people from the local black and minority ethnic communities, and disabled people who we know are under-represented in chair and non-executive roles.

Our recruitment processes are conducted in accordance with the Code of Governance to ensure that they are made on merit after a fair and open process so that the best people, from the widest possible pool of candidates, are appointed.
