Could you help enhance safety in the aviation and maritime industries?

We are seeking up to five new trustees to join our Board of Trustees

The CHIRP Charitable Trust contributes to enhanced safety in the UK aviation and global maritime industries. It is widely respected as an influential force for safer practice in both industries, nationally and internationally.

We are deeply focused on the Human Factors that, when they go wrong, can cause safety concerns. We are the net that catches the issues that others may miss.

We operate a totally independent confidential system for reporting incidents and near-misses. This, together with our follow-up analysis, our engagement with industry experts and with other significant organisations, and our publications, enables the sharing of lessons learned and thus promotes safer practice and enhanced awareness of safety at all levels.

If you share our desire to embed a Human Factors related safety culture, whether you are an experienced trustee or taking your first steps at Board level, we’d like to hear from you. You will bring either experience in, or special empathy for, aviation, maritime and/or safety industries.

We are particularly seeking expertise and experience in the following areas:

  • Financial management
  • Human Factors
  • Strategic Planning and Delivery
  • Communications and PR
  • An interest in the evolving environments and technologies in the aviation or maritime industries

We are also keen to encourage applications from groups that are currently under-represented on the Board.

As a Trustee you will be working as part of a dynamic and professional team to:

  • Shape and guide CHIRP’s future strategic direction;
  • Share responsibility for its financial health;
  • Ensure we deliver our goals of contributing to enhanced Human Factors related safety in the UK aviation and global maritime communities;
  • Help take CHIRP through a new phase of its development

You will have the opportunity to share your expertise and skills with others and to learn new skills.

The expected time commitment is around 6-8 days a year, normally including 4 three-hour Board meetings per year, an annual Awayday and occasional committee work.
