Member Nominated Director
The Co-operative Group Board - Member Nominated Director
Are you able to work commercially and co-operatively in a boardroom?
The Co-op is now looking for candidates with boardroom experience from its membership to join its Board, and make an active contribution to the future success of this iconic business.
As a Member Nominated Director, along with safeguarding the interests of our members’ business across the UK, you’ll oversee the commercial and financial performance, as well as the risk and internal audit framework. As the voice of our members in the boardroom, you’ll ensure adherence to Co-operative Values and Principles at every step.
The Co-op can trace its roots back to The Rochdale Pioneers, who in 1844 inspired one of the largest movements in the world to thrive and prosper. Today, we continue to make a major contribution to the economic and social wellbeing of the UK, with core business interests in the Food, Funeral, General Insurance, Legal Services and Electrical sectors.
We have a significant physical presence on our high streets with over 3,750 outlets, 70,000 employees, 5 million members who trade with us and an annual turnover approaching £10 billion. The Co-op is once more moving forwards with renewed purpose and energy.
Potential candidates must demonstrate:-
- An accomplished track record at an equivalent level in a substantial organisation and awareness of the strategic and operational challenges of a business of the size and complexity of The Co-op.
- The highest standard of integrity, independence and empathy with our Values and Principles, alongside the broad experience required of any non-executive director.
- The ability to contribute, at board level, on a range of commercial and financial issues while developing and maintaining an excellent working relationship with our Members’ Council, which represents our millions of members.
- A commitment to best in class governance and oversight.
There are up to two Member Nominated Director positions available. If you are selected as a candidate, you will be put forward, along with others, to take part in a contested election in which our members will vote. If you are successful you will be appointed to the Board after our AGM in May 2016.
The time commitment for the role is approximately 3 - 4 days a month. The Board meets monthly in Manchester with occasional meetings in London. The remuneration is commensurate with the role and responsibilities.
The Board aims to represent the geographical, gender, cultural and ethnic diversity of the communities it serves and is an equal opportunities employer.
