The Crown Estate is an independent commercial business created by Act of Parliament. It is one of the largest property owners in the UK with a diverse portfolio of assets valued at £11.5bn, with over £1.5bn of third party funds managed in joint ventures. It has an outstanding financial record, having consistently outperformed the market to deliver a total return of 17% per annum over the last three years. Revenue profit last year totalled £285 million, which is paid to HM Treasury for the benefit of the nation’s finances.
This is a specialist real estate business focussed on its core sectors, central London, prime regional retail, rural and strategic land, together with management of the UK seabed. It is also responsible for Windsor Great Park. The business works with a variety of high profile international partners and customers, including a number of global sovereign wealth and pension funds, together with international office occupiers and flagship retailers. Corporately, its significant stakeholders include HM Treasury and the Royal Household.
The individual will have a successful track record in business with strong leadership skills and appropriate levels of gravitas. Sector experience is open although those with a background of operating in organisations that share key dynamics with The Crown Estate would be most relevant. Proven ability as a Board member in a large, complex business is required, ideally but not necessarily with prior Chair experience. The Chair will be an individual of substance who commands respect and has an effective influencing style appropriate to the stakeholder group and will have an exemplary track record of upholding high standards of governance.
