The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is seeking expressions of interest for 4 non-executive director vacancies on the Department’s Board. These roles provide strategic leadership as well as advising on and challenging how the Department is performing.

The global pandemic has made 2020 a uniquely challenging year which will have lasting consequences for the economic and social context of our work. Building on what we have learned so far from COVID-19 there is now an impetus for change and reform to deliver on our strategic goal of leading the nation’s health and social care.

Our Non-Executive Directors will offer a fresh perspective on our work, drawing on their skills and experience from a wide range of sectors both nationally and internationally. We are interested in people with diverse backgrounds with proven leadership experience in large scale delivery organisations in the private, public or voluntary sectors or with expertise in the clinical, life sciences or digital sectors. Given the national and global reach of our work our search is not bound by geography and we welcome expressions of interest from across the United Kingdom and overseas. If you believe you have the ability, experience and enthusiasm to join us we look forward to hearing from you.

As a NED of DHSC, you will participate in regular board activities and have a strong understanding of corporate governance and a commitment to the principles of public service, with the highest standards of personal propriety in relation to governance, accountability, risk and financial management. One of the four post holders will chair the Department’s Audit and Risk Committee so must have the necessary finance experience.

These posts are remunerated at the standard rate of £15,000 per annum, with an additional allowance for the Audit and Risk Committee chair, bringing their total remuneration to £20,000. The time commitment for both roles is 15-20 days per year. The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care determines the length of appointment, which will be up to 3 years.
