Non-Executive Director – Medical/ Clinical

East London NHS Foundation Trust

Commitment: 3 days per month

Remuneration: £15,454 per annum

ELFT (East London NHS Foundation Trust) is making a positive difference to thousands of people’s lives, working alongside our patients, communities and partners, to ensure that we are providing responsive and effective support so that they can fulfil their potential.

ELFT has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by our regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in September 2016 and again in June 2018, and is financially robust and an active system leader, both locally and nationally.

We are recognised internationally for our ambitious quality improvement programme, which as transformed the culture of the Trust and the way we work with our staff. We are also internationally well regarded for the way we work meaningfully alongside our service users and carers in all aspects of our work. We believe that staff who feel valued by the Trust and are truly engaged in the organisation deliver better outcomes for our patients.

We have embarked on an ambition which will ensure that we will maintain our high quality of service delivery whilst becoming a lead provider of integrated care and improving the health and wellbeing of the communities that we serve.

We are now seeking an experienced and talented individual who will add value to our strong, vibrant and forward-thinking Board. Bringing current or previous professional expertise as a Nurse, Doctor or AHP and a passion for quality, safety and quality improvement.

You will need sound judgement and possess a clear understanding of governance along with a commitment to public service values and a collegiate approach. It is essential that candidates have worked at a senior level in a large, complex organisation, and are able to make a distinct contribution to the strategic direction and future success of ELFT.

We are proud that we are one of the most diverse Boards in the NHS and understand the benefits this brings to the quality of services and effective decision making. We therefore actively encourage applications that will assist to maintain that diversity.

The NHS is in an unprecedented place as it deals with the Covid-19 pandemic, and the Nightingale Hospital which operated out of the Excel Centre is at the heart of the communities we serve. With people forced to isolate for weeks at a time, this runs the risk of breaking down traditional support networks, and we are prepared and stand ready to support those facing mental health and other challenges as a result of this and the wider pandemic, and this role offers a way for you to help with the ongoing efforts.

We value and promote diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity for all and appointments made on merit. Preference will be given to candidates who live in or near areas to which the Trust provides services.
