Chair – The Encephalitis Society

The Encephalitis SocietyLocation:             Yorkshire/London/Flexible

Salary:                  The position is not remunerated but all reasonable travel costs will be met.

Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain usually caused by infection or by the autoimmune system attacking the brain. It shows no respect for age, sex, nationality or culture and there are around 6000 new cases in the UK every year. Although mortality is still high, with improvements in drug therapy and intensive care treatments more and more people are surviving.  This means that many people are left with an acquired brain injury.  People often have cognitive, physical, emotional and behavioural problems as a result of encephalitis.

The Encephalitis Society is a national charity with international links, and the only resource of its kind in the world.  Their vision is to live in a world where Encephalitis is as rare as it possibly can be, and that those affected and their families have access to early diagnosis, excellent management of their condition, timely access to rehabilitation and other forms of social support.

Under the inspirational leadership of their Chief Executive, Ava Easton, The Encephalitis Society has gone from strength to strength – supporting more people in more countries than ever before.

In order to continue their upward trajectory, The Encephalitis Society are looking to recruit a new influential Chair who can help lead and develop the organisation in line with their mission and values.  With outstanding communication, negotiation and influencing skills you’ll be incredibly well-connected, with the ability to open doors for further fundraising opportunities underpinned by strong governance and leadership expertise.

It will be a very exciting time to join The Encephalitis Society to support the further growth of the organisation and help us achieve our strategic goal of increasing the reach and scale of our services.
