Non-Executive Director - Energus

Energus is a subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). We are a unique conferencing and training venue based in Workington, West Cumbria. The fantastic facility hosts state of the art conferencing equipment, a dedicated events team, has its own in house catering team and is home to a selection of tenants; but Energus is much more than a building.

Energus manage award-winning graduate and apprentice programmes on behalf of the NDA, including the prestigious nucleargraduates programme that was established in 2008 and has been managed by Energus since 2010. To date the programme has recruited 425 talented graduates into the nuclear industry.

In 2018, we opened our Cyber Lab, the only one of its kind in the north of the country. Since then we have developed a talent pipeline, ranging from schoolchildren taking part in the National Cyber Security Centre flagship programme, CyberFirst, Level 3 secondary education learning, Level 4 Cyber Security Apprenticeships and the launch of a Cyber Graduate Programme.

In March, like many businesses, Energus closed its doors due to Covid-19. Most staff could work from home, and over the spring and summer of 2020, we have recruited the biggest cohort of learners in our history, showing our dedication to learning and development. The building is slowly coming back to life, with some tenants and staff returning to the facility.

The Energus Board is made up of representatives from the NDA and Sellafield Limited, with other members from the wider NDA group and a community representative. The General Manager leads the Energus Management Team, and together they are working towards delivering the vision of Energus.
