Houses of Parliament - Shadow Sponsor Board External Members
The Palace of Westminster Restoration and Renewal Programme has been established to tackle the vitally important work that needs to be done to protect and preserve the heritage of the Palace of Westminster and ensure it can continue to serve as home to the UK Parliament in the 21st century. This is a programme of work of national importance and in early 2018, Parliament agreed that the most effective way to carry out the restoration and renewal of the Palace in one single phase is to temporarily move out of the building. As a result, work is now underway to establish a shadow Olympic-style Delivery Authority and Sponsor Board comprised of high-profile individuals.
The Houses of Parliament now wish to appoint, externally recruited Board member with demonstrable experience of leadership and delivery at the highest-level in an executive or non-executive capacity in the private, public or voluntary sectors. All external non-executive Board members will be able to demonstrate outstanding Board level experience in a prestigious organisation, a significant track record of leadership and outstanding levels of expertise in the types of issues that are likely to be important in the Restoration and Renewal Programme, and experience of working within an open and transparent environment and achieving demonstrable value for money.
The Commissions are looking to identify individuals with extensive non-executive experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Leading and delivering high-profile mega-projects or large programmes, ideally client-side in a major publicly funded project.
- Leadership within a heritage environment, ideally with buildings of national or international significance.
- Experience in strategic communications and engaging a wide variety of stakeholders, including at very senior levels.
- Commercial and financial Board-level experience within a £multi-billion-pound enterprise.
Externally appointed Board members will receive an annual remuneration of £24,000 with an anticipated time commitment of at least two days per month. In the early days of the new body and around the time of transition to statutory status, more time commitment may be required.
