Member of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority
The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is looking to appoint two professional and two lay Members to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).
The HFEA regulate fertility clinics and projects involving research with human embryos. This includes licensing, inspections and setting standards.
As a Member of the HFEA you will support the Chair and Executive in setting strategic direction. You will be responsible for monitoring the performance of the HFEA’s executive, holding it to account for delivery of the HFEA business plan.
You will have the ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgement on complex and sensitive issues and have the highest standards of personal propriety in relation to governance, accountability, risk and financial management.
For the role of professional Member you will have senior level experience in a fertility field, such as a HFEA Person Responsible, or in a field closely related to fertility, and a background in medicine, nursing or clinical reproductive science.
For the role of lay Member you will have senior level experience in finance or another area of corporate governance in either the private or public sector, with an ability to Chair the Audit and Governance Committee. Applicants will also appreciate the patient perspective and be able to draw on their knowledge or experience to inform Board discussions and Authority decisions.
Remuneration will be £7,883 per annum for a time commitment of three days per month. The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care determines the length of appointment, which may be for up to a maximum of 3 years.
