The Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association (EEMUA)
Do you want to help an organisation with ambitious plans make a significant difference to the
working lives of people across the world in a short time period? Do you have a background that gives you an insight into training, marketing, publishing or communication, and have an interest in how such skills might be used to further the aims of a not for profit organisation based around the safe operation of potentially hazardous industrial assets? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
Founded in 1950, EEMUA is an established not for profit industry association for owners and operators of process plants, power stations and similar facilities – the users of engineering equipment and materials. The Association is involved in helping Members to identify, share and communicate good and best practices, and to influence the development, interpretation and practical application of technical regulations and standards. In other words, enabling the safe and effective operation of billions of dollars’ worth of industrial facilities, and helping to protect the lives and livelihoods of thousands of workers. It deals with some of the world’s largest industrial companies, and its guidance is recognised as good practice by regulators and legislators across Europe, and further afield. The Association’s offices are located in central London.
EEMUA has increased in membership, revenue and influence over the past ten years, and has ambitious plans for further growth. Due to increasing demand in all aspects of the Association’s operations, EEMUA is looking for individuals able to provide guidance and support in certain areas.
We are looking to recruit an Independent Director to strengthen our Board, who shares our vision, but can offer a different viewpoint, and can offer guidance in managing the Association through an exciting period of change. We are looking for an enthusiastic Director who has the following skills, experience and attributes:-
- Flexibility, commitment and time to meet challenges and be effective in the role
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with basic word processing and e-communication skills
- Able to work effectively at a strategic level in an experienced team, but confident enough to offer challenge and contrast.
- Ability to bring a different perspective
- Can help ensure the Association is well managed, accountable and meets legal requirements
- Can provide the Association with experience and expertise in their field
- Can act as a representative and champion for the Association
As part of our drive to strengthen and diversify our Board we have identified some areas of experience at strategic level that would be especially beneficial to EEMUA: -
- Technical training courses
- Publishing, hardcopy and/or online, of reference material
- Marketing, communications, PR
The role is voluntary, although reasonable expenses would be covered. The Independent Director position is for a four year period. Board meetings are held approximately every two months in central London. There are occasionally extraordinary teleconference meetings, and a few hours of work might be expected every month. The Association runs a two day biennial conference which directors are expected to attend; the next is in March 2017.
EEMUA has professional indemnity insurance for its directors.
