Chair of Trustees - National Skills Academy for Financial Services

The National Skills Academy for Financial Services is a registered charity and is celebrating 10 years of activity in 2017. The vision of the charity is to have a world class financial service workforce that contributes to a financially confident nation. The charity’s mission is:

  1. To help people, particularly from disadvantaged communities, to secure employment in the financial services sector.
  2. To contribute to the improvement of the diversity of the workforce in the financial services sector.
  3. To support skills development in the financial services sector.
  4. To improve the financial capability of the wider UK population.

The charity has gone through a significant period of change and has started a period of growth with support from companies in the financial services sector, government organisations and others to deliver its mission.

Chair of Trustees (and Trustees)
Salary: Unremunerated
Commitment: Approx. 16-20 days per annum, ideally for 3 years
Location: London

The Role

Building on the leadership of the current Chair, Anthony Thomson, who is stepping down after four years in the role, the charity is seeking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees and would like to hear from people who share a passion for the mission, have charity governance experience and a background in the financial services sector at a senior level.

In addition to the Chair position, the charity is also looking to recruit other Trustees and would like to hear from anybody interested in becoming a Trustee with a background in the financial services sector, a commitment to the mission and skills to contribute to the work of the charity.

The Person

The successful candidate for Chair will have an inspiring track record in strategic leadership. They will be able to influence and convey support at the highest levels. The charity would be particularly pleased to hear from individuals who have leadership experience at a national level and experience in organisations focused on societal improvement.

The annual commitment is four Board meetings per year, plus a conference and other events. Interaction, particularly with the CEO, via email and phone will be required as appropriate. No more than five days per quarter in total commitment.
