Leading the way in public and patient safety

Registrant Council member, Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (The appointee must live or work wholly or mainly in Wales)

Millions of people each year are cared for by the 685,000 nurses and midwives registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). As their regulator, the NMC exists to safeguard the public's health and wellbeing by maintaining the UK's nursing and midwifery register, setting standards for education and practice, and taking action if a nurse or midwife's fitness to practise is called into question.

This is an exciting time for nursing and midwifery professions and particularly for the NMC. After a period of significant growth and organisational improvement, we have entered a new phase of development. Whilst delivering effective regulation and becoming a leading and ‘dynamic regulator’ we are embarking on a period of transformation.

We are seeking a high calibre registered nurse or midwife who lives or works wholly or mainly in Wales, to join our Council during this exciting period of transformation. You will be willing to commit your skills, energy and enthusiasm to board level accountability, whilst playing a vital role in strengthening nursing and midwifery regulation and improving public and patient safety. We welcome applications from candidates with experience in people management, risk management or leading/overseeing organisational change, or who have significant experience of leading nursing in a large institution or service.

The time commitment for this position is approximately three days a month and the remuneration is £12,000 a year. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The successful appointee will take office from 1 July 2016.

Closing date for applications is: Noon, 21 March 2016.

Interviews will be held in London on 25 April 2016.
