Infrastructure shapes our lives. From transport links and energy systems to digital communication networks and flood defences, infrastructure drives economic growth and improves our quality of life. High quality infrastructure boosts growth and competitiveness, and the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) sits at the very heart of the government’s plans to renew and expand Britain’s infrastructure.
The Commission will assess our long-term infrastructure needs, and make recommendations on how to meet them through a ground-breaking National Infrastructure Assessment and specific studies on particular infrastructure challenges. It will engage with stakeholders around the country and build consensus around its work, and hold the government to account for delivering Commission recommendations that have been endorsed by the government.
The Chancellor is seeking to appoint a permanent Chair and additional Commissioners for the NIC. These roles offer a unique and exciting opportunity. With a broad remit and great influence, the Commission will shape our infrastructure for generations to come.
