In 2018, Royal Papworth Hospital will move to a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
In the last 100 years, Royal Papworth has built an incredible reputation as one of the leading cardiothoracic hospitals in Europe. We are famous for pioneering a series of “firsts” in heart and lung medicine – from the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979 to the world’s first successful heart, lung and liver transplant in 1986.
They treat over 25,000 inpatient/day cases and over 92,500 outpatients each year from across the UK. The hospital has nearly 1,900 staff and an annual budget of over £135 million.
They are seeking a Non-executive Director able to demonstrate recent substantial financial experience at senior or Board level, with associated UK financial qualifications and membership, e.g. CCAB or CIMA, capable of chairing our Audit Committee. The ideal candidate will already have board level experience and previous experience serving or working in the health or public sector. The Trust Board is keen to improve its diversity to reflect the communities we serve. You must embody the values set out in the NHS constitution, support the Papworth ethos of exceptional service delivery to patients, and embrace the governance challenges arising in a Foundation Trust where the Council of Governors holds the NEDs, individually and collectively, to account for the Board’s performance.
As a Board member, you will work alongside Executive and Non-executive Directors to constructively challenge and support the development of proposals on strategies, scrutinise the performance of management in meeting agreed goals and satisfy yourself that financial controls and systems for risk Management are robust and effective.
