Role Description

As St Helens College’s Chair of the Corporation Board, you will work collaboratively with an established Board of Governors and Simon Pierce, Principal/CEO, to lead and direct the College into the future and uphold their mission to transform lives through excellence in education and training.

Part of your initial work is likely to be focused on understanding the College, its ambition, and strategic opportunities. With a refresh of the strategic plan on the horizon, you will be integral in ensuring that we move forward at pace in the next phase of development.

The Corporation Board consists of 20 Members, which includes two staff and two student Governors. The Board meets six times per year on Thursdays starting at 16:00. There is also one Strategic Workshop Day in December.

You will bring a significant level of strategic experience and maintain a strong commitment to the College’s mission and values, working with a range of partners and stakeholders to create opportunities and make a real impact in the communities served by the College.

As Chair of the Corporation Board, you will need to be deeply committed to improving opportunities for people in our communities. You will bring strong expertise in chairing boards, committees or large complex meetings, based around strong governance, board effectiveness and assurance.

You will need to have a passion for education and a drive for ambition to build on our continued success for the benefit of students, staff and the local community of St Helens and Knowsley. This should be underpinned with a track record of strong strategic leadership in your chosen area of expertise and a willingness to understand the significance of the education sector and how high quality education and training presents so many opportunities to every learner.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to lead an ambitious and dynamic Governing Board and have an impact on our future success. You will support the development and influence the direction of St Helens College at a time of great momentum as we seek to grow the organisation and aspire to provide outstanding education and training opportunities for young people and adults across the St Helens and Knowsley region.
