The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the voice of psychiatry, campaigning to ensure that mental health gets equal treatment to physical health, so that patients get a fair deal and excellent care. With 18,800 members in the UK and worldwide, it is responsible for supporting psychiatrists throughout their careers, from training through to retirement, and in raising standards and quality in mental health services. The College is a strong and progressive organisation, that works to secure the best outcomes for people with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and developmental disorders by promoting excellent mental health services. In order to shape the agenda, the College has a high national profile, representing the speciality of psychiatry with government and the media.
This is a pivotal point for the Royal College of Psychiatrists, which plays a critical role in the ongoing public discourse around mental health, helping to reduce the stigma around seeking help for and discussing mental health.
The College is seeking to appoint a new Lay Trustee, with strategic expertise in finance matters, to join its Trustee Board. The new Lay Trustee would join a Trustee Board that comprises 12 people, inclusive, including three other Lay Trustees – whose strategic knowledge, experience and skills cover legal affairs, government relations and human resources. The Lay Trustees, working alongside other members of the Board, help ensure the organisation maximises its impact and contribution.
The College is particularly looking for an individual with board-level experience, and strong strategic skills. With high intellectual capabilities, strong communication and stakeholder management skills, the new Lay Trustee will play a key role in developing the vision and strategy of this key organisation.
The College values its diverse membership and workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
