Salary: Remunerated for time spent on Middlemarch business only.

Closing date: Tuesday 30th August 2016

Job ref: TRU16

This is a crucial role right at the heart of the governance of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.

After sixteen years as a Trustee, with both the Trust and its subsidiary Middlemarch Environmental Ltd (see below) in good financial health, our Treasurer Barry Whittington has decided to step down at our AGM in October.

This is a crucial role right at the heart of the governance of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust which last year turned over just under £6.5 million (2015 draft accounts show 40% was on charitable activities and 60% on trading through Middlemarch Environmental Ltd).

In addition to general duties as a Trustee the specific role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the Trust’s financial affairs, ensuring that it retains viability and that proper records and procedures are maintained.

Supported specifically by the CEO and Finance Manager the Treasurer leads the scrutiny of the Trust’s financial planning and performance, assisting all Trustees to fulfil their collective responsibility for the organisation. As such the Treasurer is the Chair of the Audit & Remuneration Committee and a Non-Executive Director of Middlemarch Environmental Ltd.

The Treasurer should

  • possess relevant financial qualifications and experience
  • be open to staff for advice on an ad-hoc basis
  • (ideally) have some experience of charity finance and fundraising
  • be able to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences
  • be prepared to make unpopular recommendations to Trustees if necessary.

The Trust would provide training specific to charity finance, if necessary. Following a constitutional review in 2014 all Trustees are now limited to three terms of three years.

This role is not remunerated for time spent on charitable activities but is remunerated for time spent on Middlemarch business.
