Since its inception in 1963, the University of York, a member of the Russell Group, has become a globally recognised research-intensive university. The Chair is responsible to the University’s stakeholders for the leadership of the Council.  The Council plays a crucial role in the development of the University’s vision and strategic direction and ensures effective leadership and good governance. The University is seeking to appoint a new Chair of Court to succeed the existing Chair, Sir Christopher O’Donnell.  This vacancy provides a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in building on the University’s recent successes and positioning the organisation for future strategic development.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with experience in, or comprehensive knowledge of, strategic issues within an organisation of comparable scale or complexity. They will bring an understanding of governance in comparable organisations, an awareness of the principles of public life, and a strong commitment to, and affinity for, higher education and the vision, strategic goals and values of the University of York.  They will be able to demonstrate outstanding personal integrity as well as relevant professional expertise and the ability to engage with stakeholders at every level.  As an equal opportunities employer, the University values and embraces diversity and inclusion.
