Arawak Walton Housing Association has been providing affordable homes in the heart of Manchester for nearly 30 years. It was formed in 1994 from the merger of two Black and Minority ethnic housing associations: Arawak and Walton. It predominantly specialises in meeting the housing needs of Black and Minority communities in cohesive, multi–cultural, sustainable neighborhoods.
Now the largest independent BME Housing Association in the North West with more than a thousand homes in its portfolio, Arawak Walton works mainly in the inner cities of Manchester, Trafford and Stockport, with its head office in Ardwick, Manchester. A social enterprise with its roots in the African Caribbean Community, the association champions the provision of quality affordable homes and services to increasingly diverse communities.
Arawak Walton is looking to appoint a Non-Executive Director to join the Board on a voluntary basis. The ideal candidate will be a strong business leader with outstanding influencing and communication skills. An experienced Board member, you will both challenge and support, while satisfying yourself regarding risk and monitoring Arawak Walton’s performance, in order to ensure it achieves its ambitious goals and continues to meet the changing demands of its residents. Experience in commercial property, construction, law, health, education, utility or housing in a regulated environment would be relevant, as would functional expertise in finance, strategy or risk management.
You would be joining an established Board to determine how the governance and accountability structures will operate in these challenging economic times to achieve the association aims and objectives. Arawak Walton is looking to appoint an individual who cares about their cause, shares the values of the association and will act as an ambassador in the region.
