Non Executive Director - Wellcome Collection Operations
Gibbs Building, 215 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BE, UK
Wellcome Trust Trading Limited (WTTL) is the commercial arm of Wellcome Collection - our remit is to deliver a commercial strategy that supports Wellcome’s vision of improving health by helping great ideas to thrive.
Part of this strategy is to ensure we fully utilise the potential of our amazing buildings and the internal venues within them – we’re now looking for a NED with experience of the commercial development of a venue to work with us as a key adviser on this journey.
This is a role that will need 2-3 days commitment per annum in our London offices and some infrequent ad-hoc advice on a more informal basis. The time in London will primarily be as follows:
- December: to sign off the accounts for WTTL and review outcomes
- May: to agree budget and delivery plan
- July: Strategy-focussed, ensuring we remain on-track, and to review the direction we are taking to ensure it is still relevant
The strategy covers the next 5 years so we’re ideally looking for someone to see us through this period. However, there is a minimum 2 year commitment and given our next meeting is in May this year and we’d need you to start by then.

Experience & Skills
We think it’s likely you will currently be working in a Board-level role within a large venue where you will have delivered growth through a commercial strategy focussed on driving utilisation of the constituent parts of the venue. You’ll definitely have this sort of experience in your recent career.
You will have built and lead the delivery of such a strategy so will able to see the long-term picture, but we also need you to be able to cast a critical eye and offer a considered challenge to the WTTL Leadership team. A key element of the need for us is around driving creativity, so we’ll look to understand how you have offered some different propositions to drive revenue – particularly around commercial events.
