The Loughborough Building Society (“the Society”) is a highly regarded and well respected regional building society which has enjoyed a period of sustained, positive results largely uninterrupted by the financial crash of 2008. As a mutual business the Society is owned by its Members, no shareholders or dividends to pay, so they make every decision by putting their Members interest first. The Society is engaged in local communities across the East Midlands; it remains proud of its origins, started in 1867 by a local blacksmith. Over 147 years later the Society has changed significantly, however, generations of staff and managers have put Members and customers first which is why the Society is still here today.
The Society’s philosophy is simple – the customer comes first. They go the extra mile in providing customers with excellence in service. The Society is progressive, continuously adapting and changing to meet the demands of today and tomorrow - Mutually owned, customer led. The Society has won Best Local Building Society three times in the last six years as awarded by Mortgage Finance Gazette. The total assets at the end of the financial year (2014) amounted to £287m.
The Society’s Board currently comprises six Non-Executive Directors and three Executive Directors. The current Chairman - appointed a director of the Society in November 1999 and Chairman in 2009 - is anticipating retiring during the second half of 2016. Accordingly, the Society is seeking to appoint a successor to lead the Board, to ensure its effectiveness on all aspects of its responsibilities; and that decisions taken are consistent with a sustainable business model in accordance to a clear and consistent risk appetite.
