Past Cases Review 2 Reference Group: Independent Members
We are looking for experienced, senior safeguarding or social work professionals to work with us as independent members of the Diocese in Europe’s Reference Group for the Church of England’s second Past Cases Review (PCR2).
The Past Cases Review 2 (PCR2) expands upon the work of the first Past Cases Review held in 2007-2009 as an important part of the Church’s overall commitment to improving the way we respond to allegations and concerns. The aim of the Review is to identify both good practice and institutional failings in relation to how known allegations of abuse have been handled, ensure that the needs of any known victims/survivors of abuse have been considered and that suitable sources of support have been identified and offered, and to provide recommendations to the Church of England that will lead to improvements in its response to allegations of abuse and in its overall safeguarding working practices. It is an essential step in making the Church a safer place for all.
The PCR2 Reference Group provides scrutiny of the process. It seeks to ensure that anyone affected by the review is supported in an appropriate manner. It also has oversight of risk management of the project and offers oversight and advice on any areas of concern that arise for the project team.
This is an opportunity be part of a very extensive and important review of safeguarding practice in an international church context, with the chance to make a real difference in the lessons learned by the diocese.
Skills and Experience:
Members of the working group must have extensive, current or recent child protection or adult safeguarding or social work experience at a senior level in a statutory, voluntary or private organisation. We would be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has, experience of working with survivors of abuse, or experience of adult and/or child safeguarding in an international context.
In accordance with Church of England safeguarding policies, the Diocese in Europe is committed to Safer Recruitment Practice, and all appointments will be subject to appropriate checks.
Further Information:
These are voluntary, unremunerated positions. The PCR2 Reference Group meets on a quarterly basis via video conferencing. Meetings are normally 1.5 hours in duration with approximately 3 hours of preparation time per meeting. The PCR2 is scheduled for completion in Summer 2021. Reasonable UK travel expenses will be met. The Diocese will offer a period of induction and support together with access to training and development.
