The UK Innovation and Science Seed Fund (UKI2S) nurtures new businesses arising from the world-class science undertaken in the UK in sectors such as: biotechnology, synthetic biology, engineering, agriculture, computer science and environmental technology. Providing long-term, patient capital, UKI2S has helped build innovative businesses, leverage private investment and grow jobs. Beyond seed funding, UKI2S provides strategic advice and support to companies in their early stages. The two “Core Partners” of UKI2S are: UK Research & Innovation (UKRI), and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL).
UKI2S is looking to appoint our next Chair. The Chair provides strategic leadership, management and advocacy for the Fund through representing and communicating the purpose, mission and future vision of UKI2S.
UK2IS is looking for a Chair with the necessary skills and expertise to lead the board and support our ambitious growth strategy. The Chair will have experience of senior leadership in a comparably complex environment, and they will likely have held a non-executive role previously. Specifically, we seek someone with comprehensive expertise, understanding and/or experience of innovation and the commercialisation of world-class research gained across public, private and/or the third sector, and ideally including experience of patient capital investment. Furthermore, ideally our next Chair will have a strong understanding in, and/or experience of, science and technology. Importantly, they must have strong political acumen and awareness as well as good people skills with a strong commitment to inclusivity and embracing and celebrating difference.
Compensation: £20,000 - £25,000 per annum.
Commitment: 4 full Committee meetings plus ad hoc meetings with key stakeholders as required. The estimated time commitment (including meeting preparation) is between 8 – 12 days p.a.
