Non-Executive Board Member - Independent Monitoring Authority

Reference: 3853
Remuneration: £300
Location: Swansea
Closing date: 23 November 2020 at midday

The role of a Non-Executive Member

The founding legislation for the IMA requires the Justice Secretary, in appointing the non-executive members to:

  • Have regard to the desirability of the IMA’s members, between them, having knowledge of conditions in the United Kingdom relating to the rights of EU and EEA EFTA citizens living here; and
  • Ensure that, so far as possible, the non-executive members include particular ones who know about the specific conditions in Scotland, as well as Wales, Northern Ireland and Gibraltar relating to the rights of EU and EEA EFTA citizens.

This recruitment campaign is for a non-executive board member with this specialist knowledge in respect of Scotland.

This is an interesting role for a candidate with the right skills to be responsible for helping to lead this new independent body. Advised by the Interim Chief Executive who has been in post since March, you will support the Chair in finalising the IMA’s staffing, structures, policies and procedures, as it begins its operations after the end of the Transition Period, and that it operates effectively from then on.

Together with the Chair and at least one other non-executive Member, you may be involved in appointing the first Chief Executive of the IMA (to succeed the Interim Chief Executive) and/or between one and three other executive Members.

This position will suit a candidate who is interested in delivering a new function, and someone seeking an opportunity which offers both intellectual challenge and stakeholder engagement.
